HSOW New Shelter Project

Wilkes County, North Carolina, is one of the largest counties in the state. The county animal shelter, which was built in 1996, is too small to handle all of the unwanted animals for this area and has to resort to euthanasia when they run out of space.

In April 2026, the Humane Society of Wilkes purchased a building in N. Wikesboro which will become the new HSOW adoption center. Once renovated, we'll be able to increase the number of pets that we can rescue. Along with promoting spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership, we hope to decrease the euthanasia rate for the county.

If you can help us reach this goal, please visit the Donation webpage or send your donation to HSOW, P. O. Box 306, N. Wilkesboro, NC 28659, and designate it for the shelter fund. If you can also donate your time, please become a member and a volunteer

Every dollar counts and no donation is too small!
