The Humane Society of Wilkes does not own or run the Wilkes County Animal Shelter.  

Wilkes County Animal Services has a new website which lists the pets that are available for adoption and the "found" pets waiting for owners to claim them. It is the most up-to-date listing of animals at the Wilkes County Animal Shelter.

Wilkes County Animal Shelter Adoption Information

The Wilkes County Animal Shelter's hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The adoption fee is $95.00 for dogs under 50 pounds and $105 for dogs 50 pounds and over.
This fee pays for the following at a participating veterinary practice:
  • Physical examination
  • A check for worms and routine deworming for hookworms and roundworms
  • The first in a series of canine distemper and parvovirus vaccines
  • Rabies vaccine at 4 months
  • Spay or Neuter at 4-6 months

Other services are recommended, such as a heartworm test and booster vaccinations for distemper and parvovirus, and should be discussed with your veterinarian at the first visit.

The adoption fee is $75.00 for cats and kittens. 
This fee pays for the following at a participating veterinary practice: 
  • Physical Examination
  • De-worming for hookworms & roundworms
  • One deline distemper vaccine
  • Rabies Vaccine at 4 months or older
  • Spay or Neuter at 6 months or older

Other services are recommended, such as flea prevention, feline leukemia test and FIV tests and booster vaccines and should be discussed with your veterinarian at the first visit.
