To qualify for vouchers:
You must be a Wilkes County resident (bring ID).
You must bring proof of income in the form of a Medicaid card or a copy of your last tax return showing an annual income of under $25,000.
We can accept only cash or checks (exact change please).
You may purchase two vouchers per person per registration event, toward a limit of six cats and two dogs per year.
Be sure to tell the vet office staff that you plan to use a SNAP voucher. If you are a new client at Wilkes Veterinary Hospital, you will be required to bring your pet(s) to a "wellness exam" first. You'll get the surgery appointment at the exam.
Spay/neuter vouchers cost $50 for dogs and $35 for cats for those who qualify. Wilkes Veterinary Hospital will accept the HSOW voucher in place of their usual charge for spay or neuter surgery. However, Wilkes Veterinary Hospital also requires that new clients first make an appointment for and attend a "wellness exam" for your pet ($45 for exam and vaccines), then schedule the surgery appointment at the wellness exam. Riverview Animal Hospital uses the voucher as a coupon-there may be some additional cost beyond what the voucher covers. Animal Ark-Elkin and Animal Hospital of Wilkes are no longer accepting vouchers. Vouchers should be obtained no more than 45 business days before the surgery appointment.
There are some conditions that may result in a higher cost for surgery, including a female in heat or pregnant or a male with cryptorchidism (undescended testicles).
